does anyone know the function of an oil sending unit?
I need clarification on the difference in problems between oil pump and oil sending unit my lifters sound like there is no oil and i need to know if the sending unit could be the problem or the oil pump this is a chevy s-10 84.
the oil pump ,does just what it says it is,it pumps oil through the engine and the sending unit monitors the amount of oil pressure that the pump is actually pumping,if the oil pump starts going bad and the oil pressure drops the sending unit will tell you that it is and in some cases it will shut the engine off to save it from damage,so the sending unit is a very important item to have,without it we wouldn’t know for sure how much oil pressure an engine was running ,good luck.
